Staying in Kasbah Tebi is a once in a lifetime experience. Where else can you stay inside a kasbah of such history and beauty in a fortified village? Do not leave Morocco without making a point of staying there.
Mohammad and his brother have devoted a large part of their life to lovingly and passionately restoring this beautiful and incredibly atmospheric kasbah which has been in their family for 400 years, inside the legendary Ait Ben Haddou (far more interesting than the film set it is often used for, but sadly overall lacking a lot of the atmosphere of some other Ksours in Morocco, unless you stay with Mohammad and take his impassioned and personally tailored tour of his Uncle’s kasbah and Ait ben Haddou and hear the real stories of this place, not the UNESCO airbrushed version with disappointingly little information available).
The Kasbah currently has no electricity but do NOT be deterred by this as it only adds massively to the charm of the place (imagine candles flickering everywhere in alcoves in your ascent up the towers and in your room) and there is no absence of the usual comforts (fantastic hot water showers, wonderful beds and interior design and some of the BEST food we ate in Morocco in 6 months). The rooms are cool and so beautifully decorated with tiny details to provide you with the exotic experience you can rarely find anywhere. In fact I would recommend hurrying to stay there as Mohammad is talking of putting in electricity and we all loved it as it was!
Apart from the glory of the Kasbah, Mohammad and his staff really make the visit. Mohammad’s dedicated passion for Ait ben Haddou is evident in everything he does and it is very inspiring. He is a wonderful man and provided us with one of the best overall hospitality experiences and definitely the best tour we have had in Morocco.
